7 Tips and Tricks for Perfect Bangs Hairstyles with Curly Hair
Here is some wonderful advice for getting the most out of your curly bangs, regardless of your hair’s length, type, or texture.
1. Keep your curly bangs healthy and looking fresh with regular trims.
Regular trims, around every six to eight weeks, should be a part of your curly haircare routine. When you get your trims, don’t neglect your bangs. They need some of that TLC, too!
Trimming your hair helps to eliminate split ends and prevent breakage. Trimming is actually also a great way to put some bounce back into your curls. You can give your bangs a proper cut once they start growing out.
2. Cut your curly bangs while your hair is dry.
Curly hair behaves very differently when it’s wet compared to when it’s dry. It curls differently; hangs differently; and doesn’t bounce in the same way either.
It’s pretty safe to say you won’t be wearing wet hair very often when you go out. So, cutting your curly bangs while your hair is wet might give you the look you want in that instant but… what about when your curls dry? Yikes!
3. Cut your curly bangs slightly longer at the sides.
This will help the hair in your bangs to blend in seamlessly with the rest of your hair. It works whether you are doing curtain bangs or straight across bangs with curly hair.
If you are considering cutting your bangs yourself (not recommended), then this just might be all the reason you need to trust your curly bangs to a stylist instead.
Speaking of stylists… if at all possible, seek out one that is experienced in cutting bangs in curly hair. No, cutting curly bangs isn’t an exact science but it’s pretty darn close to being one if you want your bangs looking awesome!
4. Cut your curly bangs longer than you think you want them.
You can always make adjustments after wearing your new hairstyle for a day or two – shortening it to just the right length. The opposite – lengthening too-short bangs – won’t really be possible.
Plus, long bangs work very well with curly hair. It could be those extra curls we get to see in longer bangs or perhaps it’s the way longer curly bangs will bounce. Probably, both!
However, if you feel shorter bangs would be better for you, then go for it girl! Just remember not to go too short to start with – always give your curly bangs hairstyle some wiggle room for adjustments.
5. Hydration is super important for curl definition in your bangs.
Bangs that are well hydrated and moisturized are much more likely to curl in their natural curl pattern. The hydration makes styling your curly bangs so much easier, too. No need for a ton of hair products and heat styling tools – finger styling is all it takes.
Also, brushing your hair tends to stretch and separate your strands. That doesn’t happen with finger styling. It keeps your curls intact and defined.
6. Get an assist from your styling wand, if needed.
If the curls in your curly bangs aren’t quite doing what they should, grab your styling wand (AND heat protectant) and help them out a bit.
For natural-looking curls in your bangs, use a wand with a diameter close to the diameter of your natural curls. Get tighter or looser curls in your bangs by using a thinner or thicker wand, respectively.
7. Don’t like them? Don’t freak out!
So, what do you do if the bangs are already cut but you just can’t feel the love? Well, don’t panic. Take a deep breath and remind yourself that they will grow out in time. And, maybe you’ll start liking them by then – who knows?
In the meantime, you can try styles that hide your bangs, like pulling your hair back with a chic headband. This is when you’ll be really happy you went for longer, not shorter, bangs.
Another solution is to get yourself some stylish clip-in bangs for curly hair. You cut and shape them at will, knowing they are not your actual hair so, no worries! Clip-in bangs can take a lot of the stress out of growing out bangs you don’t like.
