ASE BEAUTY CLEAN LIP CARE ROUTINE

Just like skincare, your lip care routine should consist of a few different steps and products. To keep it simple and clean the main steps you want to focus on are exfoliation, conditioning, moisturizing, and protection. This easy lip care routine can help smooth and soften your lips making your lipstick application a breeze.

STEP 1: EXFOLIATE

Exfoliation is at the start of every good lip care routine. This step is all about getting rid of dead skin cells, oil, or other impurities that may have built up on your skin over time. You might not notice, but every day your skin is shedding and replenishing itself. Without normal exfoliation, your lips can look dull and feel rough. Exfoliating also allows the rest of lip products to get deeper into the skin. A good exfoliating lip scrub is the perfect addition to your lip care routine. Use it a few times a week at the end of the day to help improve the texture and appearance of your lips.

STEP 2: CONDITION

After exfoliating, it’s a good practice to condition your lips. While similar to moisturizing, conditioning is more about restoring your lips back to optimal health. Products like lip masks are typically full of nourishing ingredients that work to hydrate, soften, and revitalize dry or damaged skin. Follow your lip scrub with a conditioning lip mask or use it on its own for daily nourishment.

STEP 3: MOISTURIZE

Even if you weren’t practicing a full lip care routine before, moisturizing is the step most people are familiar with. We’ve all had to deal with dry, chapped lips (especially in the cooler months), but your lips should stay well moisturized year round. Apply a good lip balm with moisturizing ingredients daily to keep your lips hydrated throughout the day. You can wear lip balm on its own or apply under your favorite lipstick.

STEP 4: PROTECT

By now we all know the importance of sun protection for everyone. Yes, even for people of color! The same goes for the skin on your lips. Every day your lips are exposed to the harmful rays of the sun and to protect them from damage like premature aging and dark spots it’s a good practice to use SPF in your lip care. You can find a lip balm that has SPF and use it alone or layer with your favorite moisturizing lip balm for an extra dose of moisture and protection.

Remember, lip care is skincare. It doesn’t have to be complicated, but it definitely is important! Tell us what your lip care routine looks like and let us know what products you need to add to get your lips in shape.
