16 Profhilo Injection FAQs answered by an Independent Nurse Prescriber

16 Profhilo Injection FAQs answered by an Independent Nurse
Prescriber

Loved by our clients for its ability to give you a ‘glow up’, Profhilo is a skin treatment that addresses the plumpness, hydration, smoothness, and glow of your skin; it’s actually been called the ‘injectable moisturiser’, but it’s so much more than that.

Our Independent Nurse Prescriber, Joanne Scott has treated countless patients with the Profhilo treatment, and was previously a trainer and assessor for injectable treatments; her experience and knowledge in Aesthetic Medicine are vast, and her fervour for good treatment safety makes her the perfect person to give you answers to the most frequently asked Profhilo questions.

[ps2id id=’1′ target=”/]What Is The Profhilo Treatment?

Profhilo is an injectable treatment containing hyaluronic acid (HA) – a natural substance we all have in our skin, but it declines with age. It is indicated for tissue remodelling and improvement of skin laxity and promotes tone and elasticity.  Following treatment, patients can expect improvement in hydration, firmness, and vitality of the skin.

[ps2id id=’2′ target=”/]Who Is Profhilo Good For?

It will benefit anyone who has noticed skin changes such as sagging, dullness and wrinkles.

[ps2id id=’3′ target=”/]At Which Age Should I Get Profhilo?

Usually, people start to notice signs of ageing in the early to mid-30s. At this stage, Profhilo is great from a preservation perspective as it can help to maintain tone and elasticity. It is also greatly beneficial to older patients who have more extensive skin changes such as crepiness and sagging as it helps to correct loss of tone and hydration.

[ps2id id=’4′ target=”/]Can I Get Profhilo When I Am Pregnant?

As with all injectable treatments, Profhilo is not indicated for patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

[ps2id id=’5′ target=”/]Can Profhilo Go Wrong?

All injectable treatments carry a small risk however when injected by highly skilled medical professionals these risks are much lower. Knowledge of potential contraindications, anatomy and infection control are important factors to consider.

[ps2id id=’6′ target=”/]Why Are Profhilo Treatments 4 Weeks Apart?

Two initial treatments are required, four weeks apart. The first treatment is to stimulate collagen production and hydration and the second is to boost and ensure longevity. In some cases, a third treatment may be beneficial 8 weeks after the second treatment.

[ps2id id=’7′ target=”/]How Long Does Profhilo Last?

After 2-3 initial treatments [see question above], results are expected to last for approximately 6 months.

[ps2id id=’8′ target=”/]Profhilo with Botox?

Profhilo can be used alongside other treatments such as Botox to further rejuvenate the face. Botox can be used to reduce fine lines and wrinkles on the upper face while Profhilo works on the overall radiance of the skin. Depending on the treatment areas required for Botox, Profhilo may be treated during the same session.

[ps2id id=’9′ target=”/]Can Profhilo Be Used with A Filler?

Profhilo and dermal fillers can work very harmoniously together. For example, dermal filler can be used to correct areas of lost volume and Profhilo can provide a boost in radiance. However, it is advisable to space out these treatments over separate appointments, due to their similar injection locations. This time frame should be at least 2 weeks apart.

[ps2id id=’10’ target=”/]Is Mesotherapy like Profhilo?

No, they are quite different. Mesotherapy is the process of using micro-injections to deliver various preparations (such as vitamins, enzymes, and antioxidants) into the skin for rejuvenation. The injection technique tends to be scattered and non-uniform. Profhilo is injected into specific bio-aesthetic points (BAP) which have been identified as the most advantageous for the bio-remodelling that occurs after treatment. The collagen production stimulated by Profhilo is far greater than that of mesotherapy.

[ps2id id=’11’ target=”/]Is There Profhilo for Tightening the Neck?

Profhilo is fantastic for the improvement of laxity, crepiness and loss of elasticity in the neck. It can also be combined with other treatments to tighten this area.

[ps2id id=’12’ target=”/]Is The Profhilo for Treating Under Eyes?

Due to its high concentration of hyaluronic acid, Profhilo cannot be used to treat under the eyes as it may lead to puffiness. However, we have other treatments available that can improve this area.

[ps2id id=’13’ target=”/]Can Profhilo Be Used On My Upper Arms?

Profhilo can be used to treat upper arm loss, and crepy skin to tighten and firm.

[ps2id id=’14’ target=”/]Is Profhilo Like A Filler?

Although they both contain hyaluronic acid, Profhilo is quite different to dermal filler. The key difference is dermal filler is generally used to lift, volumise, and add height/dimension, while Profhilo does not add volume or change the structure of the face. Dermal filler stays in one specific area of the face, but Profhilo disperses evenly through the deep layers of the skin, stimulating collagen production and hydration.

[ps2id id=’15’ target=”/]Can You do Profhilo Yourself?

No, Profhilo should always be injected by a trained practitioner.  There are many blood vessels, nerves, and structures under the skin – an understanding of these is paramount for the safe delivery of the product.

[ps2id id=’16’ target=”/]What Are Profhilo Dos and Don’ts?

We recommend no make-up before treatment, and for 12 hours after. To reduce the risk of bruising we advise patients to avoid blood thinning medication and supplements such as ibuprofen, aspirin, fish oils, Ginkgo Biloba, and garlic (unless medically necessary). Alcohol can also increase bruising risk so should be avoided for 24 hours before and after treatment.

Heat-inducing activities should be avoided such as intense exercise, spas, and saunas.

Facials, peels, micro-needling, and such to the treatment area should be avoided until 2 weeks after treatment.

Before the treatment, we will apply a topical (cream) anaesthetic to numb the area, with the intention of making it as comfortable as possible. Usually, patients report only mild discomfort.

Immediately after treatment, redness and mild swelling are normal. Small bumps where we place the Profhilo can often be seen, but usually settle after a few hours. Sometimes the product can still be felt (if the area is touched) for a day or two – this is normal, and it will settle once the product begins to integrate.

This should be a good starting point for your research about this skin treatment, however, if you’re interested, here are some Profhilo before and after images, along with the client’s Profhilo review.

If you’d like to discuss Profhilo with a view to treating your skin, alongside any other appropriate treatments for your consideration, book your consultation with our medical aesthetic practitioners, at our Hertfordshire skin clinic.
