Blissy Pillowcase Review: Worth It?!

Blissy Pillowcase Review: Worth It?!

The humble pillowcase may get overlooked but the right one can improve your sleep and thus, change your life (in this Mama’s opinion). The first pillowcase recommendation came to me when I was in my early 20’s when a more mature woman told me that a silk pillowcase was the secret to her radiant complexion. The pro tip was noted but not put into practice. At that time, I was sure that as an esthetician I was going to find a way around wrinkles but now that I’ve wised up, I say, bring on the silk pillowcase!

Silk pillowcases can seem indulgent but after trying the Blissy silk pillowcase, I have retroactive FOMO. I now realize that my face, hair, and sleep have been missing out by not switching to a silk pillowcase earlier. I’m wondering what other pro tips I should have heeded.

What Is The Blissy Pillowcase?

So what is it about the Blissy pillowcase that has made me a believer? For starters, the Blissy pillowcase is made of 22-Momme 100% mulberry silk with a 6A rating which means it’s made of the highest quality of silk. Some of the benefits of the Blissy pillowcase is that it is hypoallergenic, bug resistant, cooling, and moisture-retaining and did I mention a dream to sleep on?

Besides not having to worry about my pillowcase being a breeding ground for dust mites, I love knowing that my occasional good night of sleep is not going to result in a weird crease mark on my face.

The Blissy pillowcase comes in a variety of colors and sizes and they’ve even expanded their line to include eye masks, scrunchies, loungewear and more.

The Blissy pillowcase has some pretty great benefits for both your hair and skin!

In Blissy’s own words, some of the remarkable benefits of their pillowcase for hair are:

  • Less frizz
  • Tangle-free
  • Breakage-free
  • Style saving

They are able to take your locks from ordinary to extraordinary as they say, by preventing the tugging and pulling provided by ordinary pillowcases. Plus the non-absorbent surface helps to maintain your hair’s naturally producing oils.

They also claim to produce some amazing results in the skin department as well:

  • Hydrating
  • Wrinkle-preventing
  • Acne-fighting

Part of the genius of Blissy’s 100% mulberry silk for skin health is that it helps maintain the balanced moisture it needs to form a protective layer. Translation: your pillowcase won’t be the recipient of your facial creams and serums.

What Exactly Is The Blissy Pillowcase Made Of?

Blissy pillowcases are made of 22-Momme 100% Mulberry grade 6A silk. The reason that mulberry silk is used is because it is considered the finest quality silk. The Chinese have been producing mulberry silk for thousands of years. Silk is produced by other countries mainly Japan, India, and France, but China has long been known for their quality silk.

The term “momme” is used by silk manufacturers to describe the weight or density of silk fabrics. Just as we use thread count or the number of threads in a square inch of fabric to evaluate the quality of cotton sheets, momme is used to evaluate the quality  of silk. The reason that thread count isn’t as important as momme weight is because silk already has a lot of threads per square inch, this is why the weight of those silk threads is a more accurate measure of quality.

If you were purchasing a cotton sheet set then you would want to look at thread count and momme weight but for silk, momme weight is what is important.

A 20-30 momme weight is the range for quality silk bedding, wedding dresses and even some scarves. A momme weight of 20 or less is what chiffon and other silk fabrics are made of.

Other markers to look for are a number that ranges from 1-6 and a letter from A-C. The highest quality of silk is 6 whereas a 1 is the lowest designation. An “A” designation denotes the highest quality of silk and a “C” is the worst. Blissy pillowcases are made from 22-momme, grade 6A silk.

Satin vs. Silk

Satin isn’t silk. Even though they may look and feel similar, they are different fabrics. Satin sometimes contains silk but usually it’s made up of synthetic materials such as polyester or rayon.

Satin since it’s not 100% silk is not as soft, hypoallergenic, or as breathable as silk, however it is more budget-friendly. And both satin and silk are better than cotton at reducing hair frizz and hair breakage.

Say goodbye to those lovely morning wrinkles on your face when you sleep on a Blissy pillowcase!

Why Invest In A Silk Pillowcase?

Despite the cost and the extra effort in laundering, silk is still my top choice for pillowcase fabric. Some people are pro polyester due to its durability and the fact that it doesn’t cause wrinkles or creases on the face, but polyester is petroleum-based and in my opinion, “natural” takes precedence over “synthetic, man-made” fibers, thus my fabric of choice is going to be silk and if that is not an option, then cotton.

Here is a full comparison of silk, cotton and polyester:

Silk Cotton  Polyester
Fabric Natural fiber Natural fiber Synthetic fiber
Breathability Allows the skin to breathe Allows the skin to breathe Doesn’t allow the skin to breathe
Texture Soft Rough Soft
Skin Doesn’t cause creases or wrinkles  Can cause the dreaded creases in skin and potentially wrinkles. Doesn’t cause creases or wrinkles
Hair Doesn’t lead to tangles or hair breakage  Can contribute to the dreaded bedhead look Doesn’t lead to tangles or hair breakage
Dust mites Provides a barrier against dust mites Does not provide a barrier against dust mites Provides a barrier against dust mites
Washability  More difficult to wash and not as durable Easy to wash but not as durable Highly durable and easy to wash

Customer Reviews

Suzi’s Review

I LOVE this pillow case! It has helped my hair and skin, plus I love how the silk feels on my face. I tend to get warm as I sleep, so this feels so good because it’s cool to the touch. My hair stays smooth and less pulling. I love how it encases the pillow and has a zipper- just has a clean overall look. I bought one for my hubs and sister since and they love them too!

Love my Blissy Pillowcase on my favorite shredded latex pillow (the shredded latex is why the pillowcase doesn’t appear smooth;)

Blissy isn’t a one-sided hero product, they have some significant social proof to back up their claims with over 81,000 5 star reviews. If I hadn’t tried their product, I would be inclined to do so after seeing all of these reviews.

Here’s a snapshot of some of the reasons why people are in love with their Blissy pillowcase:

“These pillow cases had been recommended to me in the past . I was slow to purchase. Big mistake. Would highly recommend.“

“So smooth and cool. I like what it is doing to my hair… smooth and less frizzy. I wash by itself, inside out on delicate cycle, then hang to dry!“

“I loooove this pillowcase! It helps the dreaded bed head, and my hair is so much more manageable in the mornings. It’s also a dream to sleep on. So soft!”

“Worth the hype! Stays cool all night and I can honestly say it’s the first pillow case ever I’ve not had to “Flip to the cool side” once“

“I had heard good things about this pillowcase from 2 different people before I bought it. They were right. It’s very soft and comfortable. Best of all, my hair doesn’t look “roughed up “ when I wake up in the morning. I have 2 for myself and I just bought 2 more for my daughter’s birthday.“

“I have used Blissy pillowcases for nearly 2yrs, and I think they are brilliant. So much so that the latest purchase was a Christmas present for my sister in law.”

Conclusion: Is The Blissy Pillowcase Worth It?

In my opinion, every woman should try a silk pillowcase but I would especially consider a silk pillowcase if you have skin issues or unruly or frizzy hair because a silk pillowcase can make a big difference. One of the aspects of the Blissy pillowcase that I have come to appreciate is how it wicks away moisture thus keeping my precious facial serums and creams on my face instead of on my pillow. As a Mom, I value my sleep so $90 for a pillowcase is an investment I’m willing to make if it contributes to a better night of sleep and waking up not looking like I’ve been in a pillow fight all night.
