What Treatments Are Similar to Profhilo?

The Profhilo treatment can be difficult to get your head around at first and many clients at our skin clinic would ask us to liken Profhilo to other anti-ageing treatments that they’re more familiar with.

The truth is, we cannot liken Profhilo to other skin treatments because it sits in an entirely separate category from Botox, dermal fillers, mesotherapy and other skin treatments. Profhilo is a ‘bioremodeller’. I will explain below what this means, how it helps your skin and compare it to a few well-known skin treatments.

 

What is Profhilo?

So, we know that the Profhilo treatment is a bio-remodeller, but what on earth does that mean…

Profhilo is made of a unique type of hyaluronic acid (HA) which has gone through a special process, resulting in a unique HA that has a honey-like consistency; much different to the type of hyaluronic acid that is used in dermal filler treatments.

Profhilo is injected into the skin, where it disperses through the tissue and triggers bio-remodelling as it goes.

Bioremodelling results in new and better-quality collagen and elastin and the regeneration of the tissue. This helps reduce wrinkles, improve skin texture, and firm, tighten, and brighten skin.

Although we hear it being called the ‘Profhilo skin booster’, this is not accurate because Profhilo has a significant tightening effect on the skin and rejuvenates deep tissue, such as the fatty layer.

To give context, let’s compare Profhilo to some other well-known anti-ageing skincare treatments.:

 

Profhilo vs Botox

Both skin treatments are injectable, however, Botox works on the muscles that cause lines and wrinkles from repetitive movement, whereas Profhilo works on the skin by improving its quality. 

Botox usually treats the forehead, lines between the eyebrows, and smile lines around the eyes. Profhilo, on the other hand, treats from the cheeks down (not including under the eyes, Sunekos is best used there.)

 

Profhilo vs Dermal Filler

Dermal filler is probably what Profhilo is most frequently compared to; understandably, both are made from hyaluronic acid (HA). However, the HA is very different to each other as Profhilo goes through a different process to fillers. Dermal fillers are used to fill individual lines and to build volume in places where it has been lost, such as the cheeks.

Both dermal filler and Profhilo will have a hydrating effect on the treated tissue, however, fillers are designed to stay in one place, whereas Profhilo is designed to spread through the skin triggering rejuvenation.

Clinic manager, Kerri explains: “I’ve heard the difference described as… dermal filler plumps the pillows, whereas Profhilo improves the thread count of your sheets.”

 

Profhilo vs Microneedling

Profhilo works from the inside out, whereas micro-needling works on the surface of the skin and can penetrate the skin at different depths depending on the skin’s concern.

Micro-needling is a skin treatment that uses, you guessed it, tiny (micro) needles to create teeny-tiny, controlled, wounds in the skin; this triggers the skins healing mechanism, which improves the skin’s collagen, and replaces old and damaged skin cells with fresh, new ones. Micro-needling is frequently used for concerns such as wrinkles, dull skin, scarring, and stretch marks. 

You can introduce specific ingredients to the skin straight after micro-needing, which brings me to my next point…

 

Profhilo vs Mesotherapy

Mesotherapy is another skin treatment that people liken Profhilo to, however, mesotherapy can be applied to different depths of the skin depending on the concern and method used. You can also use different mesotherapy ‘cocktails’ which are a mixture of potent ingredients which can be tailored to the concern, for example, hyperpigmentation. These ingredients do not cause bio-remodelling of the skin, unlike Profhilo.

Mesotherapy can be performed via micro-needling, as described above, or via tiny injections of the desired cocktail, superficially into the skin. 

Profhilo is also an injectable treatment, however, it has a different impact on the skin and is designed to enhance the quality of your skin by improving skin texture, crepiness, and other signs of skin ageing via bio-remodelling.
