FIVE SKINCARE ESSENTIALS TO PACK FOR YOUR AUTUMN HOLIDAY

Our Brand Content Manager, Florence Reeves-White, tells us her skincare staples for two weeks in the sun

As stifling air slows adventurous steps, we squint to see radiant slivers of silver reflect from delicious blue ocean, while sun-soaked sand tickles our toes and sticks to ice-cream fingers and sweaty faces.

A holiday is, by definition, a stretch of time away from the everyday. Our diet relishes in rich flavours as we delight in exotic delicacies and indulge in one too many drinks. Sun cream is slathered on every sun-facing inch of us, washed off by a salty sea and resurfaced by nature’s original exfoliator: a sandy beach. Our skin experiences the excitement of new environments as much as we do in hot climates, so keeping it happy and stable should be high on the holiday agenda.

With that in mind, here’s the capsule skincare wardrobe I packed for my stint in sunnier climes – plus a few extra staples I couldn’t help but squeeze in my bag.

CLEANSER

A notorious skincare essential, our Smoothing Cleanser has climbed into many a suitcase over the years. Much like the trip itself, a cleansing massage is a great way to reconnect with yourself, focus on your feelings in a single moment and hit reset. This nourishing little number melts away makeup and leaves smooth, bouncy skin in its wake. Its yellow hue screams ‘holiday’, too!

For a more airport-friendly choice, opt for Clear Skies Cleansing Powder. Although not as talented at tackling mascara smudges as its ultra-smooth sister above, this perfectly packable powder (no liquids here, sir) had me covered for those no-makeup, post-beach cleanses.

TONING MIST

Say hello to your new heat-busting handbag staple. Akin to running through a cold fountain as the sun beats furiously on your shoulders, Morning Mist is the spritz you’re allowed to enjoy at any hour. Ideal for dousing yourself in a cloud of calm aboard a stuffy flight, at a balmy beach club, or before bed, this mist gets five stars for keeping skin hydrated, whatever its type. With an unscented version available for even the most sensitive skin, plus antioxidant and pH-balancing properties, this is the versatile saviour of any vacation.

VITAMIN C SERUM

Now this might not be a suitcase staple for all skin types, but for those prone to hyperpigmentation, pack some vitamin C serum. I never come home from holiday without a spattering of dark spots on my skin – whether it’s across my chin after a hormone-heavy week, or a pattern of pigmentation peppering my cheeks. Enter, vitamin C. It’s more than just a feature of my fruity breakfasts by the end of a trip abroad – Glow Berry Brightening Serum has us hyperpigmentation huns covered, with active ingredients and tone-evening talents that get to work before you can say the words ‘post-holiday blues.’

CREAM-GEL MOISTURISER

Your refreshing ocean dip has met its match with this moisturiser. Like submerging your skin in a tranquil oasis, its lightweight, cream-gel texture will turn the tides on oily skin and blemish-prone complexions. In Mexico, I kept Fresh Waves Balancing Moisturiser in the mini fridge of our hostel room. Covering my face in its cooling cloud after a roasting day in the heat was a genuine holiday highlight!

DID YOU THINK WE'D FORGET SPF?

Last, but never least, it wouldn’t be a trip away without Sun Day. Deliciously light to the touch and instantly transporting you to the tropics, Sun Day sinks into skin effortlessly and leaves the scent of summer lingering in the air. I never put less than factor 50 on my face, whether I’m blowing off the cobwebs cycling round London, battling the wind for a brisk walk on Brighton beach, or sunning myself on the sand dunes of the Sahara (or so I’d imagine) – every day is a Sun Day.

I realise I'm breaking the rules a little here by suggesting more than five products, but this one’s cute and compact, so it’s easy to squeeze in your liquid allowances bag. Our SPF lip balm, Lip Shade, was like that poolside read I couldn't put down on my trip – practically attached to my palm. Formulated with aloe butter and shea butter – the gold standard of nourishing ingredients – this lip balm protects your pout from sun exposure to keep your smile safe.

Treat yourself to the joy of these facial favourites on your trip away. Like me, you’ll probably sneak a couple more products in your bag than you intended! Just don’t get me started on body care...
