What Is a Lash Lift?
Before you even perform a lash lift, familiarize yourself with what it is. With this knowledge, you’ll learn what you need to do and what you shouldn’t, and you avoid any mistakes.
Lash lifting is becoming a popular treatment with clients. It’s a semi-permanent curl to the upper lashes and lasts anywhere from four to six weeks. Unlike extensions, it doesn’t add any length or volume to your natural lashes. However, it makes the lash darker to make them more noticeable.
Why Didn’t It Work?
Sometimes a lash lift just doesn’t take. Depending on your eye shape or lashes, you might encounter some resistance. However, don’t feel frustrated or discouraged. There are reasons behind every problem.
1. Too Much Adhesive
Using too much adhesive is one of the most common issues with failed lash lifts. You need adhesive to stick the lashes to the shield. If you aren’t careful, too much adhesive can stop the solution from working. Use a small amount of adhesive so that you can glue the top of the natural lash to the shield.
2. Lash Condition
You must take into consideration the lash condition. Are they brittle and short, or long and thick? For shorter brittle lashes, you must leave the solution on for a shorter time, about 10 to 12 minutes. With long thick lashes, leave the solution on for about 15 to 18 minutes.
3. Not Cleansing Properly
Before you even start the process, you need to prepare. Make sure you properly clean the lashes before starting your treatment. Remove any residue or left-over makeup thoroughly. Foundation could negatively affect the lift.
4. Solution Storage
You need to store the solution in a cool, dry place. Incorrectly storing it may prevent it from working effectively. Give the bottle a good squeeze before applying the solution to the lash. This will bring the solution to room temperature and help you achieve optimal lift.

5. Shield Size
Don’t assume that the bigger the shield, the bigger the lash. This is a common misconception. Large shields can offer a softer and more natural curl to your lashes. On the other hand, smaller shields prove a more dramatic curl. A medium shield can also produce similar results as a small shield.
Hold up different shield sizes to test out which one works best for you. Coarse lashes will ping off small shields, so practice patience.
Don’t feel discouraged if it doesn’t work the first time. Lash lifting takes a few tries to get right. Any one of these examples can be the reason your lash lift didn’t work. At least now you know how to combat it.
