Read on to find out about this amazing food and its many benefits for healthy, beautiful hair.

What is quinoa?

quinoa for hair - superfoods for hair growth

Quinoa is a nutrient-dense food that is often given “superfood” status. What do superfoods do for your body? A lot, actually! Because they are packed with nutrients, they help to ensure that you are hitting all your requirements for nutrient intake.

We tend to think of quinoa as a relative of rice, wheat, corn, and similar foods. That’s not surprising based on the look of its grains. It is, however, more closely related to spinach than it is to any of those foods.

Quinoa is native to the regions of the Andes Mountains. It has been used as a staple food by South American peoples for more than 5000 years. And, even before that, they were using it as food for their farm animals.

Nowadays, quinoa is produced by more than 70 countries around the world. However, the Andean region remains, by far, the biggest producer of this superfood.

What do superfoods do for your body? In the case of quinoa, it is rich in protein. It is also an excellent source of both manganese and phosphorus. Plus, quinoa has moderate amounts of iron, zinc, magnesium, and folate (vitamin B9). Each of these nutrients has been proven to contribute to the health of your scalp, hair follicles, and the hairs they produce.

Here are some of the ways in which using quinoa for hair is a good move.

1. Quinoa strengthens hair.

Each strand of hair is made up mostly of protein. Protein gives the hair its structure, as well as makes it stronger and resistant to breakage. If you use products with quinoa oil for hair, expect their proteins to coat your strands, making them more elastic, less brittle, and less likely to develop split ends.

2. Quinoa helps to prevent and repair damage.

Quinoa contains several antioxidants, including vitamin E. Antioxidants help to protect scalp and follicle cells from the adverse effects of free radicals. They also play an important role in cell repair.

3. Quinoa oil helps to keep your hair and scalp hydrated.

Quinoa oil for hair has humectant properties. This means it will help to retain and preserve moisture in your scalp and hair. It can be particularly helpful if you are experiencing the symptoms of dry scalp or dry hair.

4. Quinoa aids blood circulation in the scalp.

Quinoa contains niacin (vitamin B3) which has been shown to improve blood circulation. This is very important as it is the blood that transports nutrients and oxygen to the cells of the scalp and the growing hair cells in the follicles.
