A Clean Makeup Look for Your Next Video Conference

By Onicia Muller of ASE Beauty

With all the Zoom meetings and video conferences on our calendars this month, we’re all looking for ways to look camera-ready in a pinch. The great thing about video conferencing is that while you don't have to appear as formal as you do for an in-person meeting, most of us still need a little boost to look fresh-faced and professional. Here’s our guide for an easy, clean makeup look for your next video meeting in under twenty minutes.

Face
A soft glam or neutral makeup look should be your go-to for a video meeting. The key is using less product than you would for your average daily beat.

To start our web-camera-ready makeup look, wash and moisturize your face. We recommend using a moisturizer with SPF, even if you’re planning to be indoors for most of the day.

For those with fairly clear skin, a light dusting of face powder is all you'll need to minimize shine. If you’re dealing with hyperpigmentation, acne, or even some renegade facial hairs, apply concealer as needed and then add face powder to diminish shine.

Here’s a quick tip: avoid foundation--especially full-coverage ones--as they create the need for more makeup. Remember, we’re not aiming for perfect skin. We want to look natural, professional, and like we didn't try too hard for this video call.

Eyebrows and Eyes
Now that you've done the groundwork, it’s time to move on to the eyes! If your eyebrows got lost in step one, simply apply a bit of eyebrow gel or powder to add some definition and make your brows pop.

If your brows need a bit more help, fill them in with light strokes using a pencil, eye shadow, or your favorite eyebrow tool. This soft glam look calls for eyebrows that are present, but not overly prominent.

Treat eyelids like the apples of your cheeks and lightly dust with a pink or red and darken with a brown to achieve a smoked and blushed look. And for your lashes, too much mascara can quickly cause your makeup to look “try-hard”. A light coat of mascara or line with a brown (not black) pencil is all you need to bring this look together.

Lips
Lips play a major part in pulling off your webcam-ready clean makeup look. You can go with chapstick or lip gloss, but for a more put-together look, you can try a nude lipstick.

Emerge is ASE Beauty's play on a universal nude that's perfect for women of color.

If you're interested in adding a bit more color, try ASE Beauty's Ambition. This classic berry lipstick is regal and bold but not overbearing. Note: Just like your eyelids and cheeks, you want to just dab on the little bit to get that fresh face, video conference ready look.

Bonus Beauty Tip
The key to a flawless makeup look is healthy skin, which is achieved by properly removing your makeup. Unfortunately, traditional makeup cleansers are harsh.

Fortunately, organic coconut and jojoba oil are excellent natural makeup removers. These clean beauty staples are our favorite because they are clean and versatile! You can use them on your skin, in your hair, and as a makeup remover.

For those with sensitive skin, almond oil is a better choice. Almond oil is rich in vitamins A and E and super gentle on your skin.

To use these oils as a makeup remover, gently rub them into your skin, rinse with warm water, and then wipe your face with a damp washcloth.
