Muni Long Wins Best R&B Performance for “Hrs & Hrs” At 2023 Grammys

Muni Long Wins Best R&B Performance for “Hrs
& Hrs” At 2023 Grammys

You must admit “Hrs & Hrs” had us in a chokehold and it looks like the Grammys noticed.

According to Pitchfork Best New Artist nominee Muni Long has won the 2023 Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance with “Hrs & Hrs.”

She was given the award over fellow nominees Beyoncé (“Virgo’s Groove”), Jazmine Sullivan (“Hurt Me So Good”), Lucky Daye (“Over”), and Mary J. Blige (“Here With Me”).

“Hrs & Hrs” first appeared on Long’s 2021 EP, Public Displays of Affection.

The song rose to No. 16 on the Billboard Hot 100 after gaining popularity on TikTok, and was included on Public Displays of Affection: The Album—her first full-length project under the Muni Long namesake—in 2022. Before adopting the stage name, Long released two albums under her birth name, Priscilla Renea, and worked as a songwriter for artists including Rihanna, Mariah Carey, Ariana Grande, Fifth Harmony, and more.

Very proud of Muni Long! Nearly 15 years after she signed her first deal, went on to write for artists like Rih and Mariah Carey, and crafted her breakthrough single, “Hrs & Hrs,” (one of the biggest songs of ‘21/‘22), she’s won a Grammy for her solo work.

Stay dedicated y’all❤pic.twitter.com/6aLSJWp4eC

and

I didn’t like Muni’s follow up singles but Hrs & Hrs was a major R&B hit. And sometimes, the Recording Academy gives awards to the most popular song. Plus, it was actually good.

Heres the thing though.

Not everyone is happy about Muni snagging the Grammy for her hit single over Virgo’s Groove by Beyonce.

People think, Bey should have received it.

See below:

Oh y’all are really bothered by Hrs & Hrs winning? Why? Lmao. That song was everywhere for the longest of time, & it’s actually a good song. A great song for Bey to lose to.

and

Like, these voters must not have listened to "Virgo's Groove" if they think Muni's basic performance for "Hrs & Hrs" is better. Wow. Karaoke awards over here.
