FAQs The Ingredients What are prebiotics and postbiotics, and how do they help the skin?

Prebiotics and postbiotics are nutrients that help support the skin barrier! Prebiotics are compounds that cultivate good skin bacteria, and postbiotics are vitamins for the skin that soothe redness from dehydration and replenish moisture. These are great to pair together as prebiotics feed probiotics to create postbiotics. The postbiotic used in our Avocado Cleanser formula was made to stay on the skin after being washed off, for long-lasting benefits!

What are ceramides, and how do they help the skin?

Ceramides are lipid molecules found in skin cells that help retain skin’s moisture, strengthen the skin’s barrier, and prevent moisture loss! Our Avocado Cleanser formula contains ceramides and ceramide boosters that provide long-lasting hydration and skin-soothing even post-wash.

What types of ceramides are in this formula?

Our Avocado Cleanser contains Ceramide NP and ceramide boosters Phytosteryl, Octyldodecyl, and Lauroyl Glutamate to help support a healthy skin barrier over time.

What is the skin microbiome and why is it important?

The microbiome is the environment of microorganisms that live on our skin and help to maintain moisture, nutrients, and good skin bacteria in a healthy skin barrier. A compromised skin barrier can lead to an imbalance in the microbiome and a decrease of moisture, lipids, and ceramides in the skin, which can lead to skin issues like dryness and breakouts.

How do I know if I have a compromised or damaged skin barrier?

Your skin barrier could potentially be compromised or damaged if experiencing visible redness together with dehydration and flakiness, irritation, breakouts, or a tight, dry, stripped-skin feeling. Ingredients such as ceramides and colloidal oatmeal help to strengthen and soothe the skin barrier over time!

What is a strengthened moisture barrier?

Balanced, soothed skin is a good sign of a strengthened moisture barrier! After using ceramide-rich products such as our Avocado Cleanser and Avocado Ceramide Recovery Serum, the skin should feel balanced, soft and hydrated, and experience less visible irritation, tightness, or flakiness over time.

How are these ingredients sustainably sourced?

We source ingredients with a lower environmental impact whenever possible! This formula, including avocado extract, is cold-processed rather than using heat, to help conserve energy and water. Additionally, the ceramide booster is created via fermentation, a process that does not utilize chemicals and conserves energy to break down complex ingredients into actives.

Avocado Cleanser is safe to use in any routine, however we always recommend patch testing first
